In keeping with CHR’s commitment to implementing green energy, electric vehicle (EV) charging stations were recently installed at four of its apartment home communities in MA and RI. While these properties – Ridgecrest Village, Water View Terrace, Water View Village and Regency Plaza – are currently configured to allow two EVs to charge at once, each location has the infrastructure capacity to support up to 10 charging stations. The program was developed in partnership with Horizon Solutions, and will be operated by ChargePoint. At least five more properties are currently under consideration for future EV charging sites. While the initial demand for EV charging stations at CHR’s communities has been low, owing to a small percentage of residents owning alternative fuel vehicles, the expectation is that a combination of the lowering of vehicle acquisition costs, improvements in car charging locations, and the convenience of on-site charging stations will attract more car buyers to purchase EVs. “The installation of these EV charging stations is another way we are investing in the future by making it easier for people to make the switch from fossil fuels to more affordable clean energy,” comments Gina Madaio, Chair of the CHR Cares Committee. “Additionally, the convenience of having these stations on site will be an attractive and desirable resident amenity for many years to come.”
