Assistant Controller

Chestnut Hill Realty, a leading residential property management company, is seeking an experienced Assistant Controller to join our dynamic team at our headquarters in Chestnut Hill. The ideal candidate will oversee the accounting staff and support the Controller in the day-to-day accounting, reporting, and analysis of financial information.

Responsibilities include:

  • Manage, hire, train, and develop the accounting staff, ensuring strong performance and growth within the team.
  • Prepare monthly financial statements for multiple properties, ensuring accuracy and compliance with company standards.
  • Oversee the monthly financial closing process, ensuring timely and accurate completion.
  • Advise the accounting and property management teams on financial and accounting matters, guiding them toward solutions and improvements.
  • Supervise key accounting functions, including the general ledger, accounts payable, accounts receivable, and cash receipts.
  • Ensure the timely completion and review of general ledger analysis and bank reconciliations.
  • Perform various financial and budget analysis, helping guide decisions related to company financial performance.
  • Assist in developing annual property and corporate budgets, ensuring they align with company goals.
  • Contribute to the implementation and upgrades of new and existing software systems, and assist in documenting accounting procedures.
  • Take on special projects and assume additional responsibilities as assigned, with an eye toward future leadership opportunities.

Requirements:

  • Minimum of five (5) years of accounting experience (real estate accounting preferred).
  • At least three (3) years of managerial and supervisory experience in an accounting department.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Business Administration, or related field.
  • Strong analytical abilities, with an understanding of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP), general ledger, bank reconciliations, budgets, and month-end closing procedures.
  • Proficiency with Yardi or other computerized accounting systems.
  • Advanced skills in Excel and Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Ability to prioritize work, manage multiple responsibilities, and ensure deadlines are met.
  • Exceptional organizational, communication, and leadership skills.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, with a focus on developing and nurturing a professional accounting staff.
